What Camera should I Buy?
I have been looking around at DSLR's for a while now and think I have managed to get my choices down to two brands , Sony and Canon. Now I know a lot of people would shudder at the idea of a sony but looking at the specs they are really good value but.. the sony uses alot of their own attachments like shutter release and flash mounts. On the other hand Canon is much better knowen, has a broader range and better 3rd party support but tends to cost a little more.
So I am looking at spending approximatly $1000 - $1200 on a camera , for that I want a good body and preferbly a twin lense set up and hell thrown in a 1 gig card. What are your suggestions ?

Pentax K20D or K200D.
The K20D is awesome, best features for money of all, and the K200D is fantastic value as well. Every lens you buy has stabilisation (as does the Sony), you can use any lens ever produced by Pentax and many other makers (not all automatic of course, old lenses tend to be manual, but that’s fun too), even screw mount lenses with the adaptor, so even a 50 yr old lens is stabilised! The bodies are weather sealed, no other SLRs (except maybe $4000+ ones) are as sealed as these. They take SD cards, not the stupid compact flash or memory stick.
Lenses - the kit 18-55 mk II is one of the best out there, and add the just released 55-300 (see the amazing review at popphoto.com). Any money left over get a FA 50/f1.4. Good fun. WPS can order stuff if they don’t have it, or go online, I have got stuff from the States (bhphotovideo.com).
My sister bought a Sony and bent the CF pins putting a card in. Grrrr.

looks like a nice camera but out of my budget a bit.I Did some hunting today and I can get the a200 for $870 so will probably grab that. I was really close to the 450d but if feel they cost about $300 more than I am prepared to pay.

All good, you can’t really buy a bad one these days I think. You seem like the kinda guy who would have read all the reviews online and made an informed decision.
