Keeping you techie happy
You would think that paying your techie $70k + is the simplest way to keep them happy this isn’t a option for many places and this isnt really a option for alot of businesses. so I have been thinking of what places can do to keep their good people.
- Geeks love gadgets.. A nice new palm top or other random toys can buy their love for many months.
- If you want the best you'r going to have to keep them up to date, magazine subscriptions and encouraging regular training events should be a must. Their success with their training is also a good kpi.
- Time. Most IT staff work way outside their 9 - 5 schedule, give them a Friday appreciation day off evey few months.
- Techies usally are very proud of their work, most people don’t even understand the sort of work they do. When they do some work to improve the system tell them how much better it is.
- When they have done last minute work to fix one of your mistakes or save your ass , don’t just say thanks. take them down to the pub and shout a few rounds.
- And don’t expect them to fix your home computer because you think we love that sort of thing, we don’t.
